A Smooth, Easy Remodeling
Process that Works!
We know your life can be complicated enough without adding additional worries while you’re remodeling your home. So we’ve developed the Melton Design/Build Process, a set of best practices and proven procedures that provide you with the ultimate sense of comfort and control.
Step 1: An Initial Consultation
As a potential client, you’ll first meet with a Project Development
Manager to discuss in detail the ways your home is not meeting your needs
and what you are looking to accomplish in your home. You’ll find that
we know how to actively listen and ask the right questions so we completely
and clearly understand how you live, your goals, your priorities, and your
budget. Our information gathering process is unusually thorough. Once we’ve
projected a preliminary budget and timeframe for your project, we’ll
generate a planning and design agreement for your review and approval.
Step 2: Planning and Preliminary Design
Once you’ve signed the Design Agreement, your vision and budget is taken from idea to paper as initial concept drawings are produced. Your Melton team will ask for your thoughts and carefully listen to your comments as they craft a design that incorporates all of the important elements you are looking for in your home. Melton uses Value Engineering because we know that a home designed around your priorities is a home you will love. With Value Engineering, we focus more of your budget on the areas of your home that are most important to you, so you get greater value.
During this stage, we can also incorporate energy saving and other building performance elements into the remodeling project and design your project so that it is what we call Sensibly Green. Essentially this means we will help you determine what aspects of green building will provide you the highest returns in terms of energy and comfort, fulfill your green objectives and fit your budget.
Most clients find the excitement builds as the design and plans start to take shape and reflect what you envisioned.
Step 3: Design & Budget Refinement
Next, your Project Development Manager will present you with more refined exterior/interior color renderings and floor plans. As a team, you’ll review and discuss the plans and determine which options will help you come closest to satisfying your goals and needs. Once you feel comfortable with your decisions, we’ll refine the budget based on the options and selections you have made to date. If this updated budget is not where you want it, we continue to refine the design and scope of work to ensure the budget is where you want it to be.
During this phase, Melton’s expertise with our area’s very strict building performance regulations and building codes proves very valuable. We not only know what they are, but know how to design cost-effective solutions that meet these high standards. You benefit as your project moves along smoothly without unnecessary delay.
Step 4: Select Materials, Finalize Blueprints and Finalize Budget
Here, your design team develops and finalizes working drawings that will be used by the construction staff as they remodel your home. We’ll ask you to join us at the showroom where we’ll provide guidance as you make decisions on specific products, materials and finishes that fit your tastes and budget. Once you’ve made these selections, we’ll be able to establish your fixed price, assured by the Melton On-Time, On-Budget Guarantee.
Since many remodelers do not offer set pricing, Melton clients really appreciate knowing that the price they agree to is the price they pay. At this point we prepare a construction agreement for your review. Upon approval, we’re ready to move on to the next step.

Step 5: Project Logistics and Schedule
Melton expertly handles the entire permitting process, ensuring that everything is in order. Your Project Development Manager now arranges for and schedules all materials, labor and equipment before construction starts thus eliminating the likelihood of delays. Since your schedule is assured by the Melton On-Time, On-Budget Guarantee, you’ll know exactly when your project is set to be finished, and be able to enjoy your home when you expect to. At this point you’ll get to meet your construction team, including your Project Manager, and discuss anything unique to your situation such as pets, children, or family members with special needs. It’s time to write the project start date and end date on your calendar!
Step 6: Construction and Supervision
It’s at this point that our clients really appreciate
having all services managed under one roof. One of the
features of our unique Melton Design/Build Process is open
and constant communication, facilitated by your personal
Project Manager who keeps you in the loop regarding worker
schedules, inspections and other project-related events.
Your project stays on-time and on-budget and, as you see
your vision take shape, reflects our dedication to creating
beauty and quality above and beyond the norm.
During construction, we not only take steps
to keep the part of your home not being remodeled clean and
undisturbed, but we also clean up the work area daily so
your family can be as safe and comfortable as possible. We
also provide you with helpful tips for living in a
home that is being remodeled.
Step 7: Completion and Final Clean-Up
We are committed to keeping your home Conscientiously Clean on a daily basis, and always complete your job with a thorough clean-up and inspection of your home and yard.
Together we will conduct a final walk-through to make sure
you are 100% satisfied with your home. Since we are
members of GuildQuality,
a national organization that conducts independent surveys
for building professionals, you’ll be contacted shortly
to complete a questionnaire that lets us know how we did.
Step 8: Friendly Follow Up Including Our 3+6+10 Year Limited Warranty
Now that your project is completed, it’s time to
bid you farewell, but certainly not good-bye. We always
check in with our clients to find out how they are enjoying
their newly remodeled home and address any normal punch-list
items such as drywall pops or cracks due to settling. Plus,
our Melton 3+6+10 Year Limited Warranty will
ensure that you’ll be able to enjoy your home for
years to come.
Melton clients appreciate the ease and flow of the Melton Design/Build Process so much that we expect they’ll think of us again for their next remodeling project. And that’s the best thanks we can get.
